This 7-hour, small-group tour's destinations are the beaches and small islands around the Chania bay such as Maherida, Theodorou, Lazaretta and Menies. Beaches and isles so close to Chania, yet, reaching them by boat gives a whole new perspective and uniqueness to them. Your sail boat, the Dotos, is a 37ft Dromor with a maximum speed of 7.5 mph, and a capacity of 8 people. The weather will always determine the route followed. During the trip there will be several stops for swimming, light snacks, and of course, wine, beer or soft drinks. Just wear your swimsuit, get that towel and sunscreen, and enjoy a superb day out!

Meet and embark from the Old Harbour in late morning. In less than an hour the boat will arrive at the small beach of Maherida. Here, you can do some swimming and snorkeling. Often at this time of the day a northern wind blows the sails toward the beautiful island of Thodorou afterward for the second stop, after approximately 2-hours. While swimming here, you may notice the Cretan wild goat, or 'kri-kri', on the island, and the captain will be preparing a small snack.

The next stop is the small island of Lazaretta. Apart from the beautiful underwater view, it is worth swimming all the way to the small coral sandy beach of the island.

Time flies when at sea, and the time is already 5:00pm. The way back is marked by the Egyptian Lighthouse prevailing in the Old Harbour. Even the way back offers a unique and picturesque view of the harbor.

The journey ends with a panoramic observation of the harbor with its Venetian buildings bathed in the warmth of the afternoon light.

We’ll visit a medieval town, pass through the oldest olive groves in the Mediterranean, see iconic historic sites, bake bread in a wood-fire oven, explore an abandoned monastery, and even trek through a gorge! Adventures await!

Begin your Crete tour with a wonderful scenic ride to a tiny village set in rolling hillsides. If that alone isn’t enough to entice you, spend the morning sipping coffees in the courtyard of a house made famous in local folklore. You’ll also get to meet the owner of the house and hear about life in 19th-century Crete. As you continue your drive, you’ll see a side of Crete that tourists don’t often get to see: namely, the rural areas beyond the city center.

Our next stop is one of the island’s most famous landmarks: the Monastery of Arkadi. Surrounded by striking natural beauty, and combined with a rich and prestigious history and numerous legends, this landmark of architecture will steal your heart. You’ll also have time to take a tour within its walls and admire the refectory, the museum, an icon shop, and the religious edifices.

From here on, your next mission will be to get better acquainted with rural life. Roll up your sleeves as your learn how to make and bake bread. Participate in a hands-on cooking class in a picturesque mountaintop village. Discover all the techniques required to make the perfect loaf of bread, from preparing the dough to how to heat up a wood-fire stone oven.

While your bread slowly bakes, take an opportunity to explore this remote region. With the help of a local, you'll visit a quaint Byzantine church from the 11th century. The exceptionally beautiful and well-preserved mosaics and frescoes are a testament to the church's unique history. You’ll also spend some time exploring the nature around us and learn all about Cretan herbs and their use in everyday life, from medicine to cooking.

Next you'll explore an abandoned monastery, located in the heart of the Amari Valley. This Byzantine monastery flourished during the late periods of Venetian and Turkish rule, but was turned into an agricultural school in the mid-20th century. You’ll feel like an explorer as we walk through the deserted rooms that were once full of life. At this point you’ll be probably be starving. But worry not, a bus will take you back to the village, where you’ll get to taste not only your fresh-baked bread, but other products from a local family’s farm. A three-course meal and a million-dollar view — what else could one need?

With your belly stuffed and heart content, end your day with a walk through one of the most beautiful gorges in Crete. You'll explore for about half an hour through lush, green scenery and along running waters, enough time to make room for traditional Cretan sweets and raki, of course. Though the day may come to a close very quickly, you’ll be left with a sense of appreciation for being able to experience a side of Crete that most tourists on the island are unaware of.

We’re heading to a training centre dedicated to sustainability by supporting small-scale family businesses. Taste some treats, learn about local flora, and pick up a few tips for making your everyday life more environmentally friendly.

On this island that has been inhabited before Minoan times, the architecture varies from town to town, all due to Crete’s long history and the many occupations it’s had from foreign cultures. But tonight, we’re going to host you in a venue that’s the first of its kind in Europe! On this Crete tour, we’re heading to a sustainable facility that is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient.

Located at Drapanos Cape, Drapanos village will be your stomping ground as we get acquainted with the treasures of Crete. Drapanos is a small, traditional village, high up on the cape, in the Apokoronas region in Chania. On your way, you’ll get to admire the beautiful coast on one side and the rugged White Mountains on the other.

Once we arrive, you’ll learn all about the flora of the area, and how local products are used. Crete is home to a rich variety of plant life, including some 1,893 documented plant species of which 159 are endemic to the island.

Sustainability is not a new term to Cretans. The Cretan population has long lived in harmony with the environment, using resources responsibly — and we’re going to learn more about it at the European Sustainability Academy. This centre provides training and development programs for businesses to learn sustainable practices and corporate social responsibility. Here we’ll have the chance to chat about alternative sustainable ideas that we can apply to our everyday lives — straight from those who are experts in the field!

You’ll get to walk around the grounds and see, feel, smell, touch, and taste all the richness of this ancient land, and learn how local resources are used in everything from food to medicine. You’ll even participate in a scavenger hunt and trace the herbs around the venue.

But wait! With all that talk of fresh ingredients, you’re going to want to taste some of the goods, right? We’ll chat with a knowledgeable sommelier who will teach you the basics of wine tasting, before we dive deeper into exploring the local varieties — with a glass in your hand, of course. As well, we’ll honour that world-famous Cretan diet with a lesson in the health benefits of organic olive oil, and a few insider tips on how you can distinguish a good olive oil from a not-so-great version. We’ll pair all that with a few dishes, all starring local ingredients that will tantalise your senses!

Upon leaving the academy, you’ll have a much richer understanding of Cretan culture, while also having helped small rural businesses to thrive.

Crete isn’t just beautiful by day — it’s also gorgeous by night! And we’re going to soak it all up with this nighttime tour that doesn’t look out over the water, but up into the sky.

On this Crete tour, we’ll go stargazing and search out constellations and the Milky Way, with our own personal astronomer who will show you how to seek out stars through a telescope and with the naked eye. Don’t worry, you don’t need any knowledge of the sky — this tour is for all levels, from wannabe astronomers to experienced sky scanners!

We’ll meet just after sunset at the European Sustainability Academy, a training centre that helps local businesses to be more environmentally responsible. It’s also the first facility of its kind in Europe, located in the lovely Drapanos village in the Apokoronas region in Chania. Drapanos also just happens to offer some of the best viewing conditions on Crete.

Once we arrive, we’ll sip on a local organic wine and look to the sky. Your host will explain what we’re seeing when we look at the stars, what a constellation is, how to recognise them, and how to read a sky map. You’ll learn about the ancient cultures that used the stars in their mythologies, and how the night sky would be read to predict upcoming seasons.

Your intergalactic experience will end with a mouthwatering dinner under the stars, slow cooked in ceramic pots just as Cretans did in ancient times. We’ll dig into authentic Cretan dishes (both meat and vegetarian options) featuring locally farmed products, as we discuss ancient Greek mythology and its connection to the sky above (after all, most of the constellations with which we’re familiar come from ancient Greece!). We’ll finish it all up with a delicious dessert before leading you back to your hotel.
