Day 7: Santorini: 4 hour semi-private island tour

Stop At: Santorini Tours, Santorini 847 00, Greece
Explore Santorini with a 4 hour morning tour of the island (with experienced English speaking driver).

Visually, Santorini is the most spectacular of the isles in the Cyclades. With its brilliant flooded caldera, high cliffs and charming villages, it is the Greek Isle of everyone’s dreams. Our tour will take us to Santorini’s highest peak, crowned by the Mount Profitis Ilias Monastery. At 883 feet, Mt. Profitis Ilias rugged landscape is largely composed of volcanic rocks as a result of hundreds of eruptions during the last two million years, some of them being large caldera-forming events. Here, in this remote spot, we’ll have an ideal photo opportunity to capture the beauty of this ancient island.

We’ll discover the village of Pyrgos, which was the capital of Santorini until 1800. Here we’ll be able to admire the beautiful old houses and the Venetian Fortress crowned by several churches.

Our half-day tour then takes us to one of the island’s most famous traditional wineries. Viniculture is an ancient art in Santorini, and the fact that vines thrive at all is amazing considering the fact that the island has limited water resources. But the volcanic soil is an excellent medium for producing grapes, especially the Assyrtiko grape – a rare, white variety.

After our visit, we’ll drive through the countryside to visit Oia. This traditional Greek village of whitewashed cubes is perched impossibly high on cliffs at the north west tip of the island. Here, take in the stunning views of the island from one of the charming cafés or stroll above the rooftops of the homes carved into the cliffs and gaze into the deep blue waters of the caldera far below.

Balance of the day at leisure.

Santorini is the essence of a Greek island, where sea meets weather-beaten rock and colors are bold and elemental. The half-moon island, with its rearing cliffs and dramatic outlooks, is all that remains of a huge volcanic explosion. Inland, fertile soils provide a softer landscape of silvery olive trees, fields of tomatoes and neatly pegged vineyards that produce sweet amber-colored wine.

Meteora balloon flights . The best activity in the area of Meteora.

Our Meteora Sunrise flights are scheduled seven days a week, 365 days a year, weather permitting. We do start 30 minutes before the Sunrise Transfer from your hotel with our Meteora hot air Balloons mini-bus.

Once at the balloon launch site, our staff will greet you with hot drinks and snacks.

You may want to bring a light jacket, as it is often fairly cool before the sunrises fully.

You will be able to watch our pilots and crew inflating the balloons and preparing for take-off... When you are comfortably in the basket, your pilot will give a full flight safety briefing, explaining the landing procedures. Weather is normally very calm in this region but we always prepare passengers to take safe landing positions

The joy of ballooning is that no flight is ever the same activity. There is limited steering with a hot air balloon - it can only go where the wind takes it - and this makes each balloon flight an adventure. Your itinerary is shaped by the wind flow, ensuring that your experience is unprecedented and never replicated.

After approximately one hour your pilot will determine a suitable landing site - one with easy access for the crew and your minibus. The pilot will remind you of the landing procedure, and then he will bring the balloon back down to earth, gently...

After landing, we will join together in a celebratory glass of champagne, the balloonists’ favorite drink!, and a flight certificate with "Meteora balloon flights"

Hit new heights on a private Santorini helicopter flight and enjoy incredible aerial views of the stunning Greek island! Choose from one of two durations to suit your schedule and ogle sights such as Santorini’s caldera and Nea Kameni volcano from high in the air. Select the 30-minute flight for the ultimate 'best of Santorini' experience, and enjoy an exciting route that covers the caldera, volcano and beaches plus the ancient island of Thirasia and idyllic Megalochori and Oia villages. The private helicopter seats up to five people plus the pilot. The helicopter used may vary, depending on the total number of passengers flying.

Leave your Santorini hotel at a time to suit your schedule, and travel inland by deluxe air-conditioned vehicle to your helicopter launch pad. Meet your pilot and then board your private helicopter to take to the skies above Santorini, a place widely thought of as the most beautiful Greek island. Gaze out of the window and watch the launch pad slip from your view as the breathtaking island landscape takes center stage. How much of Santorini you see depends on the duration chosen. All flights include a hotel drop-off after touch down.

20-Minute Flight:

Spend longer in the air, checking out the caldera and Nea Kameni, and see a selection of Santorini’s top beaches, too! The beaches flown over are decided on the day by your pilot, but typical examples include Perissa and Kamari. Ogle the beaches’ red-tinged volcanic sand lapped by the sea, and look out for hideaway coves and secluded bays.

30-Minute Flight:

See the caldera, volcano and a selection of beaches, plus the island of Thirasia and two of Santorini’s prettiest villages: Megalochori and Oia. Glide above the vineyards and historical mansions of Megalochori, a charming 17th-century village, and look out for Megalochori Square where handsome tavernas spill onto the pavements.

Loop around Thirasia, the large island adrift from Santorini’s northwestern coast. Forming part of the remains of ancient Thira, the island is sparsely populated with most of its people residing in its main village. Look out for the brightly colored houses that characterize Thirasia, and then soar back over the sea to Santorini, passing the ever-scenic village of Oia. Have your camera ready to capture spectacular sights of Oia’s iconic sugar-cube houses and blue-domed churches from the air, and then glide back to the start point.
