Day 1: Ithaca

Stop At: Vathi, Vathi, Sifnos, Cyclades, South Aegean
Known as the homeland of Ulysses, the island of Ithaca was an important political center already in antiquity. Archaeological findings found reveal the presence of local communities starting from 4000 BC
Vathi, the capital of Ithaca, is built in the south-eastern part of the island, in a calm and windless bay.
Homer states that this was the location of the ancient city of Phorkys.
After the 1953 earthquake that devastated the Ionian islands, the city of Vathi suffered serious damage and the locals were forced to rebuild it.

The picturesque village of Frikes is built in a valley, 13 km north-west of the island's capital. The beauty of the village and the beach make this area a popular resort during the summer.
