Day 1: Santorini

Stop At: Santorini Volcano, Greece
One of the greatest attractions of Santorini and of utmost importance is the volcano, whose former intense activity gave the island its current shape and morphology. Before the several volcanic eruptions that occurred throughout the years, some of which were submarine, the size and the shape of Santorini were quite different. It was a much larger, round island, hence its name used to be Strogili (=circular).

Today the result of these eruptions is the creation of five separate islands, Santorini, Therasia, an uninhabited island called Aspronisi and the volcanic islands of Palaia Kammeni and Nea Kammeni. They compose a nice sight across the Aegean Sea, facing Santorini, and you can visit them as well. The existence of the volcano is visible all over the island of Santorini, especially on the bizarre beaches that are covered, in their majority, in black sand and pebbles made of solidified lava. The red volcanic rocks in Red beach, which reminds a lunar landscape, form a rare sight.

Stop At: kato koufonissi, Isola Next Pano Greece

Let me start by saying Koufonisia is not the easiest place to reach. Pano Koufonisi, Kato Koufonisi and Keros are the three main islands that make up the Koufonisia (plural). They are located between Naxos and Amorgos, as part of the Cyclades, and are a 7.5-9 hour ferry ride from Athens.

Koufonisia (meaning hollow islands) was given the name as the huge caves convinced the pirates that the island was hollow when observed from the sea.

Some trees around the beach provide natural scenery under the hot sun.

Schinoussa is a tiny remote island located south of Naxos, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. It belongs to the Small Cyclades island group along with the beautiful islands of Koufonisia, Donoussa, and Iraklia.

Boasting an unspoiled natural setting, Schinoussa has emerged as an alternative destination for relaxing holidays, away from the bright lights. Secluded beaches, wild landscapes, and little traditional settlements create a distressing atmosphere that never fails to captivate visitors.
