Stalis (or Stalida) is located 30km east of Heraklion, between Malia and Hersonissos. From a small seaside village set up by the residents of Mochos, Stalis today is a popular tourist resort which is merged with Malia town. The only difference with Malia is that Stalis attracts mainly families and things here are more peaceful. The resort is very well organized, with large and small hotels, restaurants, bars and taverns. You will also find ATM and a pharmacy. The heart of Stalis pounds in the 5km long coastal road, which has the most shops in the area.

Stop At: Stalis Beach, Beach Road, Stalis, Crete 700 07 Greece

Stalis (or Stalida) is located 30km east of Heraklion, between Malia and Hersonissos. From a small seaside village set up by the residents of Mochos, Stalis today is a popular tourist resort which is merged with Malia town. The only difference with Malia is that Stalis attracts mainly families and things here are more peaceful. The resort is very well organized, with large and small hotels, restaurants, bars and taverns. You will also find ATM and a pharmacy.

The heart of Stalis pounds in the 5km long coastal road, which has the most shops in the area. A walk along the beach in the afternoon is a must! Beside the seaside road lies a long sandy beach with shallow water, which extends to the east till Malia. The beach is broken into two parts by a short rocky cape. Nearby there is the Byzantine Church of Agios Ioannis, dating back in 1600. The beach of Stalis is very well organized with umbrellas, lifeguard, beach volley courts, showers, beach bars, water sports, changing rooms, and generally anything that a well organized beach has. There is also a small colony of Cretan Date palms, one of the few in north Heraklion prefecture. Stalis can be accessed from Heraklion by the bus running to east Crete, but you will stop on the Old National Road, just 500m from the beach.

The name Stalis is taken after the Greek verb stalizo, that means stop for resting. Here, the locals shepherds stopped with their flocks so as to rest or getting the sheep stalled. Note that the English word stall has the same Greek origin.

For lovers of hiking, there is the Bulgarian trail that ascends to Mohos and starts from Stalis. It is named so after the Bulgarian captives that built it during in the Second World War. The distance from Mohos is 5km but the trail is long, ascending and without shade. On the road you will pass a pedestrian bridge that crosses the highway and after a while you will find the modern monastery of Panagia Theogenitor (Virgin Mary). In Mohos you can walk in the small streets and drink your coffee in the big square, accompanied by the hospitable locals. If you prefer, you can walk the trail in reverse or descend another trail from Mochos to Malia.

It involves going off road on the rocky Crete terrain at the northern coast with Rethymno as the start point. Hurling an ATV Quad bike, winding through gorges, glimpsing over nature and wildlife, accessing the rarely seen Cretan landscape is a whole level of fun and adventure. Even better, before departure, you are given the terrain directions, instructions for riding the quad bike and the necessary gear.

This is a whole basket of fun as you drive the ATV Quad bikes that can go on off-track roads making you enjoy every bit of the natural breeze of the island. You can choose to drive yourself or have a driver drive you around.

We know Crete better than anyone else and we will take you to places no one else can. We are off road experience in Crete for 36 years. Enjoy exciting, unforgettable, safe off road driving with out problems.

We drive 300-450cc ATV Quad Bikes for 2 persons.

We start at 09:30am from our main office in Hersonissos. After the instructions from the very professional guide Andreas on how to operate and use the Quads ,we will go straight to the mountain. Using the very small road (no traffic) so you can try steering the Quad, accelerating, and braking. Our journey towards the beautiful traditional villages of Koutouloufari, Piscopiano and old Hersonissos. Then continue onto the nearby mountains toward Lasithi plateau.

Just before Potamies village, we will drive through small riverbeds (and if we are lucky – also through water) and pass by small local gardens of orange, lemon, apples, pears, almond and walnuts trees, plus grapes and olive groves, smelling the beautiful aroma of the many different herbs of the famous Cretan mountains. You’ll be able to listen to the sound of the millions of little tsitsikia (insects) which they will fly next to us all the way (they are not biting and not dangerous at all). We will drive up to 400m. height driving  through a hunting area, visit few small churches and have the opportunity to see stables of sheep and goats on the way to traditional Karouzanos village, inhabited by on 15 people. Here you can have a Greek café, drink, or ice cream, rest and of course make some photos in this fantastically unique place.

Then we will drive up to 600 m. height towards Askous village. There we will have the opportunity to see the beautiful view of Lyttos and Kasteli area from the top. Halfway, we will start the entertaining downhill route from the beautiful little church to Askous village. We will stop to taste the authentic Cretan tsikoudia (raki) and share some tasty and pure snacks that traditionally accompany this drink in this part of Crete. Then we continue downhill to the Aposelemis dam and view Sfentili village (now underwater). This is the faster and extremely part of the tour at a place looks like you are in jungle, until we reach the Panagias monastery. Then we will drive back, about 14:30

Should take: Driving license, sun glasses, sun protection, small bottle of water and you  can buy the GoXplore bandana for the dusty moments, or the special offer with the GoPro film.!!!!!
